About Vivek College of Commerce
History and Background
About Vivek College of Commerce, Mumbai Vivek College of Commerce is on Vivek College Road in Siddharth Nagar, Goregaon West, in Mumbai's western suburbs. It is run by the Vivek Education Society, a charitable body formed in 1961. The society opened Vivek Vidyalaya in 1962 and a junior college in arts, science and commerce in 1976, and it started the degree college in 1986. The college is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai and has been recognised by the UGC under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) since 2006. The college has both grant-in-aid and self-financing sections. The regular B.Com has permanent affiliation, and the newer programmes are run alongside it as self-financing courses. Programmes include: B.Com B.Com in Accounting and Finance, Banking and Insurance, and Financial Markets Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) B.A. in Multimedia and Mass Communication B.Sc. Information Technology M.Com and M.Sc. Information Technology NAAC has assessed the college three times. It received a B grade in 2004 and again in 2010, and a B++ grade with a CGPA of 2.78 in January 2022. Admission to the first year follows University of Mumbai rules, and the college posts admission and examination notices on its website. The college also runs a few certificate courses alongside the degrees. Students take part in inter-collegiate youth festivals, where college teams have won prizes in mime, classical dance, light vocal music, storytelling and painting. The college received an appreciation trophy from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in 2019–20. It also has a Swachhta Action Plan committee that handles waste, water and energy management on campus.
