About Vikas College of Arts Science and Commerce
History and Background
About Vikas College of Arts Science and Commerce, Mumbai Vikas College of Arts, Science and Commerce began in 1986 as Vikas Night College of Commerce, on Vikas High School Marg in Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli (East). The Vidya Vikas Education Society started it for working people and students from poorer families in Mumbai's central suburbs, people who could not attend a regular day college. The society's motto talks about light for those in darkness, support for the helpless and guidance for those without a path, and the college was its way of acting on that. At first it offered only commerce. A BA followed, and later the college added science and technology courses on a self-financed basis. It is now a multi-faculty college affiliated to the University of Mumbai, which has named it a Lead College, so it coordinates academic activities with other colleges in its cluster. It is ISO 9001:2015 certified and has been through NAAC accreditation more than once, with certificates from 2005 and 2013. Besides the regular B.A., B.Com and B.Sc, the self-financed courses include: B.Sc in Information Technology, Computer Science and Biotechnology B.Com in Management Studies (BMS) and in Accounting and Finance (BAF) M.Com and M.Sc programmes Ph.D. research, with registered scholars guided by college faculty BMS and BAF students complete yearly project reports, and many science students do field and project work as part of the course. Admissions for 2026-27 are announced on the college website. Close to four decades after it began as a night college, Vikas still serves students from Vikhroli, Kannamwar Nagar and the nearby eastern suburbs.
