About Vidya Jyoti Eduversity, Chandigarh Vidya Jyoti Eduversity is the name used by the Vidya Jyoti Educational Society (VJES), which runs its city office from Sector 17 in Chandigarh. Despite the name, it is not a university itself. It began in 2003 as the Hotel and Catering Management Institute (HCMI) and became a non-profit society in 2006. Its degree programmes run under I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU), whose exams its students take. Hospitality is still the core. Courses include the Bachelor and Master of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, diplomas in hospitality and catering, an international diploma in food production (cookery), and diplomas and postgraduate diplomas in aviation, tourism and hospitality. The society added a B.Sc and M.Sc in Hotel Management under PTU in 2010. Over the next decade the course list spread into other fields, one or two programmes at a time: BBA and B.Com (from 2012) B.Sc IT and B.Sc and M.Sc in Animation (2013 and 2018) Catering and culinary arts, and a master's in travel and tourism (2015) BA in Media and Entertainment, and a master's in medical lab science (2016) B.Sc in Fashion Design and Environmental Science, and B.Voc in Child Care and in Beauty and Aesthetics (2019) B.Sc Microbiology, a PG Diploma in Digital Marketing, and a master's in fashion management (2023) Diplomas in interior design, graphic and web design, and entrepreneurship, along with a PGDCA, are offered too. One feature it highlights is an international vocational pathway, which lets students transfer after the first or second year to partner colleges abroad. One such partner is Aspire2International in New Zealand, where credits can move to its Auckland campus. Many of the hospitality faculty have taught at other universities in the Chandigarh region, and the society advertises hotel training in five-star properties around Mohali and Chandigarh.
