History and Background
About Vel Tech Multi Tech Dr Rangarajan Dr Sakunthala Engineering College, Chennai Vel Tech Multi Tech, as most students call it, is an autonomous engineering college at Vel Nagar on Alamathi Road in Avadi, in the western part of Chennai. It was started in 1999 under the R.S. Trust, founded by Col. Prof. Vel. Dr. R. Rangarajan and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan, the couple behind the wider Vel Tech group of schools and colleges. The college is affiliated to Anna University and approved by AICTE, and it has autonomous status, so it sets its own syllabus and exams. NAAC has accredited it with an 'A' grade (score 3.49 out of 4), and individual programmes, including EEE and MCA, have held NBA accreditation. Engineering seats are filled through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling under college code 1118, and MBA and MCA seats through TANCET and the state's common counselling. Programmes on offer include: B.E. in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering B.Tech in Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and Computer Science and Business Systems M.E. in Embedded System Technologies and VLSI Design MBA with Finance, HR, Marketing, Operations and International Business streams MCA Industry links are a strong point here. The college has signed MoUs with around 57 public sector and research bodies, 12 international organisations and 27 multinational companies for joint research and exchange programmes. It won the AICTE-CII award for the best industry-linked emerging engineering institute and runs a startup incubation programme that has supported more than ten student ventures. Students also regularly appear in Anna University rank lists.
