History and Background

About The Oxford College of Science, Bangalore The Oxford College of Science is in HSR Layout, Sector IV, in south-east Bengaluru. It teaches in a six-storey building with about 2.85 lakh square feet of space. The college belongs to the Oxford Educational Institutions, run by the Children's Education Society. Its founder chairman, educationist Vidyashree S. Narasa Raju, founded the society in 1974, and it now runs more than 32 institutions in the city, from pre-KG to doctoral courses. The science college is affiliated to Bangalore University and offers degrees in the pure and applied sciences: B.Sc in ten subject combinations B.Sc in Fashion and Apparel Design BCA M.Sc in ten subjects, including Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry MCA and M.A. English PG Diploma in Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics The B.Sc runs for three years over six semesters. For M.Sc Biotechnology and Microbiology, applicants generally need a B.Sc with a life science subject and at least 50 percent in their optional subjects. Graduates in biotechnology, microbiology, botany, zoology or biology honours can also apply. Admission is handled at the HSR campus, and the college's admission office helps with eligibility questions for each programme. Being part of a large group has practical benefits. Each Oxford institute runs its own training and placement cell. The society gives need-based scholarships and runs free dental services. Science students share the wider group with medical, dental, engineering and management colleges, so the HSR Layout campus is part of a much larger educational network in the city.
