About Symbiosis Institute of Design - (SID)
History and Background
About Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) in Viman Nagar, Pune, is a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). It belongs to the wider Symbiosis group, which Dr. S. B. Mujumdar started in 1971 as a support system for foreign students in Pune and which now runs institutes across many disciplines. SID teaches design at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The B.Des offers several specialisations: Fashion Design and Fashion Communication Graphic Design and Communication Design User Experience Design Product Design Interior Space Design Animation and Film Design An M.Des is also offered, including a track in UI/UX. The first year builds basic skills such as sketchbook work, recording methods and visual perception before students move into their chosen field. Admission to the B.Des is through the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), held online every January. A SEED score is valid for one year, and no one can be admitted without it. Candidates who clear SEED move to an online Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI), which includes a set task uploaded before the interview. The final merit list combines SEED, the portfolio, the PRPI task and the interview, and shortlisting is done separately for each specialisation chosen at registration.
