About St Xavier’s College- Ranchi
History and Background
About St Xavier's College- Ranchi, Ranchi St. Xavier's College, Ranchi was founded in 1944 by the Jesuits and is run by the Ranchi Jesuit Province as a Christian minority institution. It is an autonomous college of Ranchi University, so it frames its own syllabi and conducts its own examinations while the university awards the degrees. Its autonomous status has been extended up to 2026–27. The college was accredited by NAAC with an A grade in 2013, and in its most recent assessment in May 2022 it received a B+ grade. It has also held the UGC's College with Potential for Excellence status. Programmes run at undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate levels. They cover arts, science, commerce, business administration and education: B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. in a range of subjects Undergraduate programmes in business administration Postgraduate degrees in arts, science and commerce subjects B.Ed. in the Department of Education Vocational, diploma and certificate courses Admission is made through the college's own online application process. Selection depends on the programme and is based on qualifying marks or the college's admission criteria for that course. Notices and merit lists are published on the college website each session. With more than eight decades behind it, the college has educated several generations of students from Ranchi and the rest of Jharkhand, and it remains one of the older colleges in the city.
