About St Martin's Engineering College
History and Background
About St Martin's Engineering College, Secunderabad St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) was set up in 2002 by the St. Martin's Children's Education Society. It is on Dhulapally Road near Kompally, on the northern edge of Secunderabad, about 18 km from Secunderabad railway station. The 17-acre campus includes a separate sports area of about six acres. The college describes itself as completely free of ragging. SMEC is an autonomous institution under UGC and permanently affiliated to JNTU Hyderabad, so JNTUH awards the degrees while the college sets its own curriculum and examinations. NAAC has accredited it with an A+ grade, and NBA has accredited its programmes. It is recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and its research centre is recognised by JNTUH. B.Tech intake totals 1,410 seats: Computer Science and Engineering (600 seats) CSE - Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (300) CSE - Data Science (120) and Computer Science and Information Technology (120) Electronics and Communication Engineering (240) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (30) B.Tech admission in Telangana goes through TG EAPCET counselling, with lateral entry through ECET, under state rules. Besides the regular syllabus, students do micro-projects and technical seminars and get training in programming, aptitude and soft skills. Students can also earn Honours and Minor degrees. The college reports more than 100 MoUs with companies and institutions, including the MSME Tool Room in Hyderabad, and it has the first Texas Instruments innovation centre on a Telangana campus. The campus has smart classrooms, laboratories for each department, a 1,200-seat auditorium, an open-air theatre, campus-wide Wi-Fi, a 100 kW solar plant, a gym, an ATM, a medical centre, hostels and a fleet of buses. The Institution's Innovation Council has a five-star rating from the Ministry of Education, and alumni have started companies through the college's entrepreneurship programme.
