About St Joseph College -Devagiri
History and Background
About St Joseph College - Devagiri, Calicut St. Joseph's College, Devagiri, was founded in 1956 by the CMI congregation and is located at Devagiri in Kozhikode (Calicut). Its motto translates as "For God and Country", and the college gives special attention to students from poor and marginalised backgrounds while admitting students of all faiths. The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut and became autonomous in 2014. Its NAAC record is unusually strong. It received an 'A' grade in 2004, was named a College with Potential for Excellence by UGC in 2010, and in 2016 became the first college in India to be awarded an A++ grade, with a CGPA of 3.76. In the fourth cycle in 2024 it was re-accredited with A++ again, scoring 3.65 in the autonomous college category. Devagiri is an arts and science college with a long list of departments: B.A. programmes in humanities and languages, including Economics B.Sc in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and other sciences B.Com, BBA and BCA M.A., M.Sc. in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Zoology, Computer Science and Statistics, M.Com, MCA and MSW Ph.D. in Economics, English, Commerce and several science subjects Over the years its students have taken more than 200 top ranks in university examinations. Undergraduate teaching now follows the four-year FYUGP pattern, and the college publishes CAP registration links and admission notices on its website. Students can join NSS and NCC, and the college also runs a placement cell, a library, an IQAC and several statutory cells.
