About SRR & CVR Government College
History and Background
S.R.R. and C.V.R. Government Degree College is at Machavaram, Vijayawada. Its history page on https://srrcvr.ac.in/ says Sri Rajah Venkatadri Apparao Bahadur started it in 1937 as a private college, named after his father Sri Rangayya Appa Rao and run with Sri Chunduri Venkata Reddy. The buildings were inaugurated on 7 February 1942. The management handed the college to the Government of Andhra Pradesh from 1 July 1958 under G.O. Ms. No. 1691, Education, dated 29 June 1958. From 2010-11 it has been affiliated to Krishna University, Machilipatnam. UGC recognised it under 2(f) and 12(b) from 1978-79. The history page says the campus is about seven acres. It records NAAC B++ in 2004 (81.25 percent), B grade in 2011 (CGPA 2.70), and B+ in the third cycle in 2017 (CGPA 2.6). It also says NIRF placed the college in the 151-200 band in 2019 and the 101-150 band in 2020. Those bands were not stored as a single rank. For 2021-22 the page says 36 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate programmes were offered, with undergraduate strength 2,302 and postgraduate strength 270. The city stays Vijayawada.
