About SRM University
History and Background
About SRM University, Amaravati SRM University-AP is a private state university at Neerukonda in Mangalagiri mandal, Guntur district, in the Amaravati capital region of Andhra Pradesh. It was established on 23 May 2017 under the Andhra Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2016. The university belongs to the SRM Group, which Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar founded in 1968 and which also runs SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai. Dr. Paarivendhar is the Chancellor, and Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan is the Pro-Chancellor. SRM AP describes itself as a multidisciplinary, research-focused university. Students get some flexibility to pick learning domains beyond their main subject, instead of following a fixed one-track course. Programmes run at undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. level in engineering, sciences, liberal arts and business. Some of the undergraduate options are: B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, including AI and Machine Learning, and other engineering branches B.Sc (Hons) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and Integrative Biology B.Sc (Hons) in Economics and Psychology BBA (Hons) in Business Administration B.Tech admission is mainly through the SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam (SRMJEEE), and the university also considers national test scores and Class 12 results for some programmes, depending on the course and the year's admission notice. Ph.D. admissions open separately. Student projects get a good deal of attention. One student team has worked on an air taxi design for advanced air mobility, and the university has launched UNITES, an innovation society with global partners. Faculty are drawn from institutes in India and abroad.
