About Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) is a private, non-profit deemed university at Porur in Chennai. It started in 1985 as Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, set up by industrialist N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar, and received deemed university status from the Government of India in September 1994. The present name was adopted in August 2018. Health sciences are still the core, but the university now has 15 faculties with 37 undergraduate and 123 postgraduate programmes, plus Ph.D. degrees. Disciplines include: Medicine (MBBS, MD, MS) and Dentistry (BDS, MDS) Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Allied Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences and Public Health Engineering and Technology, and Management Sports Science, Clinical Research, and Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology NAAC re-accredited SRIHER with an A++ grade (CGPA 3.53) in 2021. In NIRF 2025 it was placed 60th among universities, 13th in dental, 21st in medical and 36th in pharmacy. The 150-acre campus has more than 9,500 students and two hospitals on site with over 2,250 beds between them, so medical, dental and nursing students do their clinical training without leaving the campus. MBBS, BDS and postgraduate medical seats at SRIHER Chennai are filled on NEET scores through the deemed university counselling, while other programmes follow the university's own admission process each year. Research is another focus. The SRIHER Innovation and Incubation Centre, funded with support from BIRAC-DBT, has incubated around 30 start-ups in digital health, diagnostics and medical devices, and StartUpTN has recognised it as the top incubation centre in Tamil Nadu.
