About Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College
History and Background
About Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Pondicherry Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, or SMVEC, was set up in 1999 by the Sri Manakula Vinayaga Educational Trust. The trust started it to give students from poorer backgrounds in and around Puducherry access to affordable technical education. The college is in the Union Territory of Puducherry and has grown from an engineering college into a multi-school campus. In 2019 the UGC granted SMVEC autonomous status for ten years, running to 2029, and Pondicherry University later approved it as well. The college is accredited by NAAC. Being autonomous, it now offers courses beyond engineering, including arts and science, allied health sciences and an undergraduate degree in architecture. Engineering remains the core. B.Tech branches include: Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology Electronics and Communication, and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Electrical and Electronics Engineering Mechanical and Civil Engineering At the postgraduate level the college runs M.Tech programmes, an MBA and an MCA, along with research leading to a PhD. B.Tech admission for Puducherry seats is handled through the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC), and JEE Main scores are also accepted for some seats. MBA and MCA seats also go through the centralised Puducherry admission process.
