About SPN Doshi Womens College
History and Background
About SPN Doshi Womens College, Mumbai Smt. P. N. Doshi Women's College in Ghatkopar West, Mumbai, was set up in 1960 by the SPRJ Kanyashala Trust. The trust itself goes back to 1924, when a group of reformers decided to offer free education to girls from primary school up to postgraduation, especially girls from poorer families. The college began with five students in a B.A. class and now has about 5,000 students. Three colleges work together under the P. N. Doshi name: Smt. P. N. Doshi Women's College of Arts, Kumari U. R. Shah Women's College of Commerce, and Dr. (Smt.) Nanavati B. M. Women's College of Home Science. All are affiliated to SNDT Women's University, which was founded by Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve. The UGC has granted the college autonomous status, and NAAC has accredited it with an A grade in four consecutive cycles, most recently with a CGPA of 3.23. Courses cover arts, commerce, home science and professional subjects: B.A., B.Com and B.Sc (Home Science), including Resource Management and Interior Design BAMC, BMS, BCA and BAF M.A. in Industrial Psychology, Counselling Psychology and Hindi M.Com and M.Sc in Early Childhood Education Junior college (Class 11 and 12) in arts, commerce, science and arts with home science For BCA and BMS, the college takes part in the Maharashtra CET process and then fills remaining seats through an institution-level round with its own merit lists. Other courses follow the college's own admission process each year. As an autonomous college, it frames its syllabus through an academic council that includes outside experts from industry, law, education and the sciences.
