About Siksha O Anusandhan University (SOA), Bhubaneswar Siksha 'O' Anusandhan (SOA) is a deemed to be university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It started out as the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), an engineering college opened in 1995, and was declared a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act on 17 July 2007. SOA now has a number of constituent institutes spread across engineering, medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, law, management, agriculture, hotel management and the sciences. NAAC has accredited SOA with an A++ grade in its third cycle, and the UGC has granted it Category-I graded autonomy along with 12(B) status. In NIRF 2024 the university was ranked 14th among universities, 26th in engineering, 21st in medical, 9th in dental and 9th in law. Its engineering, management, pharmacy and hotel management programmes are accredited by the NBA, and the B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture programme is accredited by ICAR. DSIR recognises SOA as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. Some of the better known parts of the university are: ITER, the engineering faculty, for B.Tech and M.Tech Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, for MBBS and postgraduate medicine Institute of Dental Sciences SOA National Institute of Law Faculties of Pharmacy, Nursing, Management, Agricultural Sciences and Hotel Management MBBS, BDS and postgraduate medical seats are filled through NEET, as required by national rules. For B.Tech and several other programmes, SOA runs its own SAAT entrance test. The hospital side is large: IMS and SUM Hospital has a second campus at Phulnakhara, and the medical faculty is NABH accredited with NABL-accredited labs. Agriculture students spend time in villages through a rural attachment programme.
