About Shri Nehru Mahavidyalaya College of Arts & Science
History and Background
About Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya (SNMV) was started in 1989 by the Coimbatore Welfare Association, which chose its own silver jubilee year to open the college. The 50-acre campus is at Malumachampatti on the Coimbatore–Pollachi national highway, close to the Eachanari Vinayagar temple on the southern edge of the city. The college is affiliated to Bharathiar University and recognised by the UGC. NAAC has re-accredited it with an A+ grade, and the college is approved by AICTE. SNMV has a little over 3,200 students, taught by 147 faculty members and supported by 98 non-teaching staff. There are 22 undergraduate and 8 postgraduate programmes, along with M.Phil. and Ph.D. research. The main course groups are: B.A. English, B.Com and BCA B.Sc. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology and Biotechnology B.Sc. Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, AI and Machine Learning, and Digital and Cyber Forensic Science BBA and MBA M.Sc. Data Science, M.Sc. Microbiology, M.Com, M.A. English Literature and MSW Alongside the regular degree, students can take value added courses, fourteen of which have been sponsored by the UGC. The welfare association that runs the college describes its aim as value-based education. Applications for the 2026–27 academic year are taken directly by SNMV, and selection follows the eligibility conditions set by Bharathiar University for each programme.
