About Shri Guru Gobind Singhji College of Engineering & Technology
History and Background
About Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering & Technology, Nanded Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering and Technology, known as SGGSIE&T, is at Vishnupuri in Nanded, in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. It was founded on 17 December 1981 and is fully aided and owned by the Government of Maharashtra. It became academically autonomous in 2004, and the UGC notification for that followed in February 2005. Since then the institute has set its own syllabus and examinations. The college started with just two undergraduate branches. It now runs ten B.Tech programmes and about ten postgraduate ones. Undergraduate options are: Electronics and Telecommunication, and Instrumentation Engineering (the two original 1981 branches) Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Technology Civil, Mechanical, Production and Chemical Engineering Electrical Engineering and Textile Technology M.Tech specialisations range from CAD/CAM and water management to structural engineering, VLSI and embedded systems, and computer networks and information security. PhD work is also offered, including under the Ministry of Education's Quality Improvement Programme. B.Tech seats are filled through the Maharashtra CAP rounds on MHT CET and JEE Main scores, and M.Tech admission is mainly through GATE. A 2004 national survey picked SGGSIE&T as one of the Maharashtra colleges that could be raised to a centre of excellence. The other colleges named were COE Pune, VJTI and ICT Mumbai. The institute has used two phases of TEQIP funding to build research labs, including a centre of excellence in signal and image processing. Its students have topped GATE with All India Rank 1 on four occasions.
