About Shia Post Graduate College
History and Background
About Shia Post Graduate College, Lucknow Shia Post Graduate College is one of the older colleges in Lucknow, set up in 1919 and run by the Board of Trustees of Shia College and Allied Institutions. Although it follows an Islamic tradition, the college admits students from every community, and its emblem carries the Hadith "I am the city of learning and Ali is its gate". It is an associated college of the University of Lucknow, which awards its degrees. Teaching is spread across two campuses: the main one on Sitapur Road and a second on Tulsidas Marg, formerly Victoria Street. Undergraduate classes run in arts, science, commerce and law, and postgraduate classes in arts, science and commerce. The wider trust also runs an Arabic college for theology and an intermediate college. B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. (Biology and Maths groups) BBA B.A. LL.B. (five-year) and LL.B. (three-year) LL.M. (two-year) Postgraduate courses in arts, science and commerce subjects Master of Journalism and Mass Communication (M.A.J.M.C.) Admission to most undergraduate and law courses is made through merit lists that the college publishes on its website each session, and seats are filled in rounds of counselling. Students should check the notices for the course they want, since the timelines for B.A. LL.B., LL.B. and LL.M. differ from the general degree courses. Each campus has its own central library, and departments keep separate collections, some with old and rare books. There is a boys' hostel on the Sitapur Road campus. Students can join the Army and Naval wings of the NCC or the National Service Scheme, and the Faculty of Law brings out a research journal called Law Review.
