About Saveetha University
History and Background
About Saveetha University, Chennai Saveetha University now goes by its full title, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, or SIMATS. It is a deemed-to-be university on the outskirts of Chennai, recognised by the UGC, with 12B status and an A++ grade from NAAC. Its single campus covers more than 245 acres and has about 60 lakh sq ft of built-up space. Fourteen constituent institutions share the campus, with roughly 17,000 students and 5,500 staff between them. The university grew out of the Saveetha group of colleges led by its chancellor, Dr. N. M. Veeraiyan. He is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and has written on Tamil literature. Health sciences are still the backbone of the university, but its schools now cover a much wider spread of subjects. Programmes offered across the constituent schools include: MBBS, BDS, B.Sc Nursing and allied health courses B.E. in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Mechanical and Civil Engineering BA LLB (Hons) and other law programmes Management, pharmacy, physiotherapy and postgraduate research degrees Admission depends on the programme. MBBS and BDS seats go through NEET-based counselling. Engineering applicants take the university's own entrance test, SEEE. Law aspirants can use CLAT, and management applicants can use CMAT. With every school on one campus, students from medicine, dentistry, engineering and law study side by side.
