About Satyawati College

History and Background

About Satyawati College, Delhi Satyawati College is a co-educational constituent college of the University of Delhi, located in Ashok Vihar in North Delhi. The Government of Delhi set it up in 1972, and the college still runs as a Delhi Government funded institution on a campus of about 10 acres. The name comes from Behen Satyawati, a freedom fighter from Delhi and granddaughter of Swami Shraddhanand. She worked alongside Gandhi and Nehru, drew many women into the Civil Disobedience Movement, and was called "Toofani Behen" by Gandhi. The college keeps her story at the centre of how it describes itself. Teaching is spread across eleven departments covering humanities, languages, social sciences and commerce. Students can choose honours courses such as B.A. (Hons) Hindi and B.A. (Hons) Urdu, or B.A. Programme combinations like History with Mathematics and Urdu with Political Science. Admission to undergraduate seats follows the University of Delhi process, which runs through CUET (UG) scores and the Common Seat Allocation System, with merit-based rounds announced later for vacant seats. Postgraduate students also study here, and their documents are verified on campus at the start of the session. NAAC has accredited Satyawati College with an A+ grade in its second cycle. Students come from a wide mix of social, cultural and regional backgrounds, and the college holds students' union elections every year.
