About Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology - RGIT
History and Background
About Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (MCT RGIT), Mumbai Few engineering colleges in Mumbai sit as close to the sea as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. Its campus of a little over five acres lies on Juhu-Versova Link Road in Andheri West, beside Versova beach. The institute opened in 1992 and is run by the Manjara Charitable Trust. Vilasrao Deshmukh, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, founded the trust at Latur in 1988. RGIT is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai and approved by AICTE. The Government of Maharashtra has given it an A grade. NBA has accredited its undergraduate programmes in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and the college holds ISO 9000 certification. A 2017 AICTE-CII survey listed it as an industry-linked institute. The college offers five undergraduate engineering programmes, three postgraduate programmes and research in three disciplines. B.E. branches include Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electronics and Instrumentation, and Mechanical Engineering. M.E. options are in Electronics and Telecommunication and Mechanical, and there is a Master of Management Studies (MMS) programme. First-year engineering seats are filled through the Maharashtra CAP rounds, which use MHT CET and JEE Main scores. M.E. admission goes by GATE, and MMS takes MAH MBA CET. Students run events such as the RECURSION hackathon, an IEEE technical festival and aero-modelling workshops every year.
