About Raja College of Engineering & Technology
History and Background
About Raja College of Engineering & Technology, Madurai Raja College of Engineering and Technology was founded in 1995 at Veerapanjan in Madurai. In 2016 the Solamalai Group took it over, and it is now called Solamalai College of Engineering. The group is a Madurai business that began in 1962 with a single lorry. It later moved into goods transport, FMCG distribution, passenger services, infrastructure and cinemas. The alumni association still uses the old Raja College name, and the 1995–99 batch held its silver jubilee reunion on campus in April 2024. The college is autonomous, approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. It offers seven undergraduate and four postgraduate programmes. Recent undergraduate options include: B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, and B.E. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning B.Tech Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and B.Tech Computer Science and Business Systems B.E. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, and Electronics and Communication Engineering First-year B.E. and B.Tech seats are filled through TNEA counselling, which ranks students on Class 12 marks. Diploma holders can join through lateral entry. Postgraduate admission uses TANCET, or GATE scores for M.E. The college received a 3.5-star rating from the Institution's Innovation Council for 2021–22. It was placed in the "Promising" band of the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements for private technical institutes. It is the nodal centre for the BMW Skill Next programme, a training centre under PMKVY, and has an e-Yantra robotics lab backed by the Ministry of Education.
