About Pentakanti Law College
History and Background
About Pendekanti Law College, Hyderabad Pendekanti Law College in Chikkadpally, Hyderabad, was inaugurated on 13 April 1991 by Ranganath Misra, then Chief Justice of India, with Krishan Kant, then Governor of Andhra Pradesh, as chief guest. It is named after Pendekanti Venkatasubbaiah, a freedom movement veteran who represented Nandyal in the Lok Sabha for 27 years, served as Union Minister of State for Home and Parliamentary Affairs from 1980 to 1984, and later became Governor of Bihar and then of Karnataka. The college is sponsored by the Vasavi Academy of Education, formed in 1981 with Venkatasubbaiah as its patron-in-chief to offer professional education on a non-commercial basis. The academy went on to set up schools and engineering, polytechnic, management and law colleges in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Pendekanti Law College is affiliated to Osmania University and approved by the Bar Council of India, and its faculty are appointed through committees constituted by the university. Three programmes are offered: LL.B. five-year integrated degree course LL.B. three-year degree course for graduates LL.M. for law graduates Admission to the LL.B. courses is based on rank in the state Law Common Entrance Test (LAWCET), and LL.M. seats are filled through the PGLCET. Outside lectures, students take part in regular moot courts, workshops, seminars and symposiums, and the college arranges interaction with members of the Bar, the Bench and industry. There is a law library on the premises. The current principal, Dr P. Aravinda, is herself an Osmania law graduate who went on to an LL.M. in Constitutional Law and a doctorate.
