About PEC University of Technology
History and Background
About PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh Punjab Engineering College, still listed in many places as PEC University of Technology, is older than the city it stands in. It began on 9 November 1921 in Lahore as Mughalpura Engineering College and was renamed Maclagan Engineering College in 1924. After Partition in 1947 it moved to Roorkee as East Punjab Engineering College and took the PEC name in 1950. It shifted to its present campus in Chandigarh in December 1953. The Government of India notified PEC as a deemed university in October 2003. It was renamed PEC University of Technology in 2009. In 2017 it took the name Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), which it uses today. The President of India attended its centenary year celebrations. Undergraduate programmes include: B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication, and Electrical Engineering B.Tech Mechanical, Production and Industrial, and Civil Engineering B.Tech Aerospace and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering There are also M.Tech, MBA and PhD programmes across departments. B.Tech seats are filled through JEE Main, with allotment handled by JoSAA and the CSAB rounds. M.Tech admission uses GATE. A career development and guidance centre manages campus placements and arranges the full-semester industrial internship built into the B.Tech curriculum.
