History and Background
About Padmashree Dr D Y Patil Medical College (DYPMC), Pune Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre was set up in 1996 at Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri, in the Pimpri-Chinchwad part of Pune. Its founder president was Dr D.Y. Patil, and the institute is now led by Dr Bhagyashree Patil, Pro-Chancellor of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth. The college is a constituent unit of that deemed university, which awards its degrees. The college is recognised by the National Medical Commission for undergraduate, postgraduate and super-speciality courses. It started with 100 MBBS seats and now admits 250 MBBS students a year, along with postgraduate students in a range of clinical and pre-clinical subjects. NAAC has accredited the institute in its third cycle with an A++ grade and a CGPA of 3.64. Admission to MBBS and MD/MS courses is based on NEET scores, and the college also runs DM and M.Ch. super-speciality programmes. Main course levels are: MBBS MD and MS in clinical and pre-clinical subjects such as anaesthesiology, anatomy, biochemistry and community medicine DM and M.Ch. super-speciality courses Teaching is tied to the college's own hospital, which has a large outpatient complex covering broad and super specialities. The hospital and its central clinical laboratory are accredited by NABH and NABL. Students also use a clinical skills and simulation lab, genetics and molecular diagnostics labs, and a library of more than 35,000 books and 266 journals. Hostels are available for both men and women. Research links are wide. The institute has worked with Johns Hopkins University, Boston University and MRI Global, took part in the WHO Solidarity trial and Oxford's RECOVERY trial during COVID-19, and is an ICMR West Zone site for the Indian Clinical Trial and Education Network. It also publishes the Medical Journal of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth.
