History and Background
About Padmashree Dr D Y Patil Arts Commerce & Science College, Pune Dr. D. Y. Patil Arts, Commerce and Science College opened in 2001 under the Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidya Pratishthan Society, now called the Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society. It started in rented premises of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation with the aim of giving students from nearby rural areas access to degree education, and it now runs from Sector 27-A, Nigdi Pradhikaran, Akurdi, in the Pimpri-Chinchwad part of Pune. The college is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and follows its syllabus and exam pattern. NAAC has accredited it with an 'A' grade, with a CGPA of 3.05 out of 4. Most of its departments, from Commerce and Sociology to Geography, Statistics, Zoology and Microbiology, were started in 2001 along with the college itself. Courses cover the three traditional streams along with professional degrees: B.A., with subjects such as Sociology and Geography B.Com B.Sc, with Microbiology, Zoology, Statistics and Biotechnology among the options BBA and BCA M.Sc Microbiology Admission is based on Class 12 marks for undergraduate courses, following SPPU rules, and postgraduate seats such as M.Sc Microbiology are open to B.Sc graduates in the subject. Outside regular classes, the college runs trekking and biodiversity camps, Swachh Bharat and nature conservation camps, induction programmes and guest lectures. The Geography department's Vasundhara Manch organises exhibitions, village surveys and debates, and the Statistics and Microbiology departments run study tours and projects for their students.
