History and Background
About Oriental Institute of Science & Technology, Bhopal Oriental Institute of Science & Technology (OIST) is on Raisen Road, opposite Patel Nagar, on the eastern side of Bhopal. It belongs to the Oriental Group of Institutes, which Dr K L Thakral started in 1995. The group is self-financed and runs under the Devi Shakuntala Thakral Charitable Foundation, Bhopal. Besides the Bhopal colleges it has institutes in Indore and Jabalpur and a private university, Oriental University, in Indore. OIST's engineering courses are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), the state technical university of Madhya Pradesh, so exams and degrees follow RGPV rules. The group covers engineering, pharmacy, management and computer applications. At OIST the main draw is the B.E. programme, offered in branches such as: Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering Mechanical, Civil and Automobile Engineering There are also M.Tech and MCA programmes for graduates. B.E. seats in Madhya Pradesh private colleges are filled through the state's online counselling, which uses JEE Main scores. M.Tech admission usually goes through GATE or the state PG counselling. The Bhopal campus is spread over about 17 acres and mixes modern blocks with traditional design. It houses classrooms, laboratories, workshops and a library for the engineering programmes. Because the group also teaches pharmacy, management and computer applications, students from several disciplines work on the same site.
