About NM Christian College- Martandam
History and Background
Nesamony Memorial Christian College is at Marthandam in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. Marthandam is not the city of Kanyakumari, so this record's city has been set to Marthandam. The history page says the Kanniyakumari Diocese of the Church of South India decided to open a college there, pre-university classes started in 1964 with permission of the University of Madras, and the college was inaugurated on 6 August 1964 by Bishop I.R.H. Gnanadason. Dr. John D.K. Sundar Singh was the first principal. It began as a men's college and became co-educational in 1977. It was renamed Nesamony Memorial Christian College in 1984. Affiliation moved to Madurai University in 1966, later Madurai Kamaraj University, and to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, in 1991. The history page says the college now offers 20 undergraduate, 15 postgraduate, 12 M.Phil., 12 Ph.D., and 11 certificate courses, with about 4,050 students, 187 teachers, and 93 non-teaching staff. It says NAAC awarded an A grade for 2014-2019. That sentence is the college's statement of that cycle, not a claim about a later grade. Phone 04651-270257.
