About National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur Students coming to the National Institute of Science and Technology in Berhampur, Odisha, reach a hillside campus at Palur Hills in Ganjam district. The institute started taking students in 1996 and now presents itself as NIST University. Its founder and president is Dr. Sukant K. Mohapatra, and the institution says it has more than 19,000 alumni working in India and abroad. Engineering is still the main draw, but the list of programmes has grown well past it. Campus life has its own fixtures, among them an indoor stadium where the yearly orientation for new undergraduates is held. Former students meet at regular alumni events, including city chapters outside Odisha.
