About National Engineering College - Tuticorin
History and Background
About National Engineering College, Tuticorin National Engineering College (NEC) is in Kovilpatti, a town in Thoothukudi district in southern Tamil Nadu. It opened on 20 July 1984 under the state government's self-financing scheme for engineering colleges. The National Educational and Charitable Trust set it up and still manages it. NEC is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, and approved by AICTE. It became an autonomous institution in 2011, so it designs its own curriculum and runs its own exams. Anna University still awards the degrees. The college has been assessed by NAAC, and its programmes go through NBA accreditation cycles. Undergraduate courses include: B.E. Computer Science and Engineering and B.Tech Information Technology B.E. Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering B.E. Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering At the postgraduate level, NEC runs M.E./M.Tech programmes, including Production Engineering, as well as an MBA and an MCA. First-year B.E. and B.Tech seats are filled through TNEA counselling based on Class 12 marks. Postgraduate admission uses TANCET or GATE scores. The college has a Society of Automotive Engineers student chapter, which gives students interested in vehicle design a place to work on projects together.
