History and Background
About Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology, Ahmedabad Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology (NSIT) is part of the Swaminarayan Gurukul at Jetalpur, in Daskroi taluka of Ahmedabad district. The Swaminarayan Vividh Seva Niketan Trust runs it. The institute is linked with the Shree Swaminarayan Temple at Kalupur, Ahmedabad, and is named after Shastri Swami Narnarayan Dasji, who laid the foundation of the Jetalpur Gurukul in 1978. The trust ran schools, a hostel, a gaushala and a primary health centre long before it opened an engineering college. Its later leaders, Shastri Swami Atmaprakash Dasji and Shastri Swami Purushottamprakash Dasji, built the primary health centre and then handed it to the district panchayat. NSIT came out of that tradition of service, and the institute still emphasises values and ethics along with technical training. The college opened in 2008. It is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU). It offers a Bachelor of Engineering in six branches: Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering Computer Science Engineering Civil Engineering Automobile Engineering The first four branches started in 2008, and Civil and Automobile were added later. Students come from across Gujarat and from other states. Because NSIT Jetalpur sits inside a gurukul campus on the edge of Ahmedabad, daily life there follows the gurukul's routine.
