About Mumbai University

History and Background

The University of Mumbai is not only the oldest university in the state of Maharashtra, but it is also one of the oldest state university in entire India. The university was established in the year 1857 by John Wilson, who was a missionary in British India. Earlier the University was called as the University of Bombay, but when the name of the Bombay city was changed to Mumbai, the University was named as the University of Mumbai. Currently, there are 711 colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai.   University of Mumbai Courses:   Mumbai University offers various courses- undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses and doctoral courses.
