History and Background
About MGM Institute of Health Sciences, Mumbai MGM Institute of Health Sciences (MGMIHS) is a deemed to be university for health sciences, with its headquarters at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai and a second campus at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad). It received deemed university status through a Government of India notification dated 30 August 2006. The sponsoring body is the Mahatma Gandhi Mission (MGM) Trust, founded in 1982 in Nanded by Kamalkishor Kadam, a former Education Minister of Maharashtra. The trust began in Nanded and later spread to Aurangabad, Navi Mumbai, Parbhani and Noida, running schools as well as colleges in medicine, nursing, engineering, management, law and the arts. MGMIHS is the health sciences arm of this group, and a separate state private university, MGM University, operates in Aurangabad. MGMIHS was accredited with an A++ grade (CGPA 3.55) by NAAC in its second cycle in 2022, and the UGC has placed it in Category I. Courses cover the full range of health education: MBBS, MD, MS and super-speciality courses at MGM Medical College, Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad Nursing, from B.Sc to Ph.D. Physiotherapy (BPT and MPT) B.Pharm and D.Pharm Allied health and biomedical science programmes at B.Sc and M.Sc level Ph.D. across medical and allied subjects MBBS, MD and MS admissions go through NEET and the counselling rules that apply to deemed universities. For Ph.D. seats the university holds its own MGM Ph.D. CET, followed by a presentation and viva.
