History and Background
About Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology, better known as MGIT, sits on a 30-acre campus at Kokapet in Gandipet mandal, on the western edge of Hyderabad. It was set up in 1997 by the Chaitanya Bharathi Educational Society, a group formed in 1979. The college is affiliated to JNTU Hyderabad and has since received autonomous status from the UGC, which lets it frame its own syllabus and exams. It is recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, holds an A++ grade from NAAC, and its eligible programmes have gone through NBA accreditation four times. MGIT runs eleven B.Tech programmes with a combined intake of 1,020 seats, along with five M.Tech programmes. Branches include: Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology and newer emerging-technology branches Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics and Metallurgical Engineering Most first-year B.Tech seats are filled through TG EAPCET counselling under the convenor quota, and M.Tech seats go through TG PGECET or GATE. The faculty strength is 236, and 116 of them hold a PhD. The college also offers B.Tech and M.Tech tracks for working professionals and has a boys' hostel for first-year students.
