History and Background

About Maharana Pratap Engineering College, Kanpur Maharana Pratap Engineering College (MPEC) was set up in 1999 by the Maharana Pratap Group of Institutions (MPGI). The group describes it as the first private engineering college in Kanpur. The group had started out running public schools in Kanpur, beginning with an English-medium school at Sharda Nagar. The engineering college was its first step into professional education. The college is on the group's flagship campus at Mandhana, along the Grand Trunk Road on the Kanpur outskirts. The campus covers about 50 acres. Roughly half of it is built up, a quarter is landscaped and a quarter is sports grounds. Six of the group's colleges share it, including the pharmacy, nursing and paramedical colleges, and it has three hostels and two cafeterias. MPEC is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. B.Tech branches currently listed include: Computer Science and Engineering, with AI, AI and ML, and Data Science options Electronics and Communication Engineering Other core engineering branches The wider MPGI campus also offers a BBA and B.Sc Nursing. Over the years the group has added a 100-bed multi-speciality hospital at Kothi, Mandhana, a dental college and several pharmacy colleges. It now has ten campuses across three states, including a university. B.Tech admission is through AKTU's counselling, which allots seats on JEE Main ranks. Diploma holders can join the second year through lateral entry. The college posts its AICTE extension of approval on its website each year, so applicants can check the approved intake.
