Laxminarayan Institute of Technology was established in 1942 at Nagpur. A May 2024 mandatory disclosure from Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University says LIT was modelled on UDCT and was part of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University before it was carved out as LIT University under Maharashtra Act XLI of 2023, with the university dated 29 August 2023.
