About Karpagam College of Engineering
History and Background
About Karpagam College of Engineering, Coimbatore Karpagam College of Engineering (KCE) in Coimbatore was started in 2000 by Dr. R. Vasanthakumar, an industrialist who heads the Karpagam group of companies and is an Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate of Madras University. The college is an autonomous institution affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, and is ISO 9001:2015 certified. NAAC has accredited KCE with an A+ grade, and in the NIRF 2025 rankings it was placed in the 201-300 band for engineering. The B.E./B.Tech programmes in Civil, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the NBA. There are nine undergraduate and two postgraduate programmes in all. Newer branches sit next to the core ones: B.E. Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security) B.E. Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) B.E. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering B.Tech Artificial Intelligence and Data Science B.E. Civil, Mechanical, EEE, ECE and CSE, and B.Tech IT As an autonomous college, KCE sets its own syllabus under a choice based credit system, with an outcome-based approach. Most B.E. and B.Tech seats are filled through TNEA counselling run by the Tamil Nadu government, using Class 12 marks, and the rest under the management quota. New students start with an induction programme called YUVA. The placement cell runs pre-placement talks, tests, group discussions and interviews on campus, and the college has MoUs and centres of excellence with industry partners. It also has an innovation and incubation set-up for student projects.
