About JSS College of Pharmacy -Tamilnadu
History and Background
About JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty JSS College of Pharmacy sits at Rocklands in Udhagamandalam (Ooty), in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. It began in 1980 with a D.Pharm course and has been a constituent college of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, since 2008. JSS AHER is a deemed university run under JSS Mahavidyapeetha and holds an A++ grade from NAAC. The college offers D.Pharm, B.Pharm, Pharm.D, M.Pharm in ten specialisations and a Ph.D. M.Pharm subjects include Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Pharmacy Practice. Its B.Pharm is accredited by the NBA, and the Pharm.D programme was the first in the Asia Pacific region to receive international certification from ACPE, USA. The college was ranked 4th among pharmacy institutions in India in NIRF 2025. Research is a large part of the work here. The 6.2-acre campus has a pilot plant for solid dosage forms, labs for drug delivery and computer-aided drug design, plant tissue culture, and analytical tools such as LC-MS-MS, HPLC and HPTLC. There is a CPCSEA-approved animal house, a BA/BE centre with a DCGI-approved ethics committee, and a drug testing laboratory accredited by NABL. The college's Centre for Advanced Drug Research and Testing takes on consultancy for industry. Students get clinical exposure through the Government District Headquarters Hospital in Ooty, a 420-bed hospital where the college provides clinical pharmacy services and runs a drug and poison information centre. The college has also adopted two tribal villages, Veerakombai and Nedugalcombai. The campus has residential space for about 600 students and 30 staff, a library of over 10,000 print and digital resources, sports grounds and a health centre.
