About Jorhat Engineering College
History and Background
About Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) admitted its first batch of Civil Engineering students on 10 October 1960. That makes it one of the older engineering colleges in North East India. It is a government college of Assam, at Garmur in Jorhat, in the upper Assam valley. The college is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU), which conducts its semester examinations and course registration. Its courses are recognised by AICTE. JEC has completed more than 60 years and keeps its annual reports and admission notices on its website. Programmes offered: B.Tech in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science and Instrumentation Engineering M.Tech in Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering Master of Computer Applications (MCA), offered since 1987 PhD research in engineering departments B.Tech seats in Assam's government engineering colleges are filled on the basis of JEE Main ranks through the state's centralised counselling. M.Tech admission is mainly through GATE, and MCA follows the state or university entrance for that course. The college's stated mission is to develop skilled people for industry and society through UG, PG and PhD teaching and need-based research. It puts particular weight on research that serves the region, and it works to strengthen links between industry, academia and alumni.
