About Jesus & Mary College (JMC)
History and Background
About Jesus & Mary College (JMC), Delhi Jesus and Mary College is a women's college of the University of Delhi in Chanakyapuri, in the diplomatic area of New Delhi. It opened in 1968, and its library was set up the same year. The college motto is "Thou art light, fill me with thy light". JMC is a Christian minority institution and is accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade. The college sees itself as a place to educate women, guided by Christian values and aimed at a fair and inclusive society. Its stated goals are to develop women of competence, compassion and conscience, who can lead in their own fields and help change society. Some of its research and student work looks at women's issues, for example the project "Madira: Untold Stories of Women and Alcohol". JMC runs undergraduate courses under the University of Delhi, and its departments include Commerce and Sociology, among others. Most seats are filled through the university's common admission process based on CUET-UG, as set out in the DU admission bulletin each year. As a minority institution, the college reserves a share of seats for Christian women applicants, who go through a separate procedure that includes an interview. The college is also a nominated institution under the government's Vidyalakshmi scheme for girl students. The library sits in the middle of the campus. It has two large air-conditioned reading rooms, an e-resource centre, about 60,000 books, 67 journals and magazines, and 10 newspapers. It works on an open-access system and is fully computerised.
