About JD Institute of Fashion Technology
History and Background
About JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai JD Institute of Fashion Technology started in 1988 and is one of the older private names in design training in India. It has grown into a network of about 55 learning centres, 50 in India and five abroad in Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Birtamode and Sharjah. Mumbai has several of these centres, including Andheri, Vile Parle, Ghatkopar and Borivali, with more in Thane and Vashi nearby. Courses cover fashion, interiors, jewellery and related design work, at degree, diploma and certificate level. Some of the programmes on offer: B.Des in Fashion Designing and B.Des in Fashion Communication and Styling (4 years) BBA in Design Management, and BBA in Design Entrepreneurship and Analytics MBA in Luxury Design, Branding and Strategy, and MBA in Fashion Entrepreneurship and Management Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Design and Management Diplomas in fashion illustration, merchandising, styling, draping, visual merchandising and fashion photography The institute's teaching leans heavily on practical work. Students go on site visits and sourcing trips, take part in fashion weeks and industry masterclasses, and put up displays and installations of their own work. The photography diploma is run in association with The Photographic Society of India, and short certificate courses in pattern-making and garment construction are offered for those who want a quick, skills-only route. Admission is handled directly by the institute, and applicants can choose the Mumbai centre closest to them.
