History and Background
About Jadavpur University Faculty Council of Engineering & Technology (JUFET), Kolkata Jadavpur University's Faculty of Engineering and Technology is older than the university itself. Its roots go back to 1905-06, the years of the Swadeshi movement. The National Council of Education, Bengal, was set up then to teach literary, scientific and technical subjects on national lines and under Indian control. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering both date from 1906. Civil Engineering was added in 1956, Electronics and Telecommunication in 1957, Food Technology and Biochemical Engineering in 1964, Architecture in 1965, and Production Engineering in 1980. Today the faculty has 16 departments on the university's campus in south Kolkata. Jadavpur University is a state public university. It holds an A+ grade from NAAC in its fourth cycle (CGPA 3.46). NBA has accredited its B.E. programmes in Computer Science and Electronics and Telecommunication for six years, and in Information Technology, Instrumentation and Electronics, and Production Engineering for three. In NIRF the university is listed first among state public universities and 18th in engineering. Besides the regular B.E. and B.Arch degrees, the faculty runs an unusually long list of master's courses, including: M.E./M.Tech in Software, Power, Production and Control System Engineering M.Tech in Printing Engineering and Graphic Communication, and in Food Technology and Biochemical Engineering M.Tech in Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering Evening programmes for working professionals, such as M.Tech in AI and Data Science and Master of Construction Engineering B.E. admission is mainly through WBJEE counselling, while M.E. and M.Tech seats use GATE scores or the university's own tests.
