About Institute of Computer Science & Technology
History and Background
About Institute of Computer Science and Technology, Varanasi The Institute of Computer Science and Technology (ICST) was the first college set up by SHEPA, the Society for Higher Education and Practical Applications. SHEPA was registered in 1999 with backing from the Rungta Project group, and its campus is at Nibia, Bachchaon, on the VRM bypass road (NH-2) outside Varanasi. ICST is recognised by the UGC under Sections 2(f) and 12(B). ICST started with an MCA programme approved by AICTE. That course was first affiliated to VBS Purvanchal University and moved to Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, once the state technical university was formed. An MBA was added in 2004. Later the institute added undergraduate and commerce courses affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi, where its college code is 117. Courses now include: MCA and MBA (AKTU) BCA, BBA and B.Com B.Sc. with subject groups drawn from physics, chemistry, mathematics, zoology, botany, microbiology, biotechnology, geography and home science M.Com Admission depends on the course. For the MBA, candidates need a CUET score from the National Testing Agency; 15 percent of seats are a management quota filled directly on graduation marks, and students must pre-register on the AKTU website for those. For the Kashi Vidyapith programmes, applicants fill in the college's own application form, and the admission committee schedules an admission test for eligible candidates. The B.Sc. needs an intermediate pass with biology or mathematics, the B.Com an intermediate in commerce or with economics or mathematics, and the M.Com a B.Com degree. Faculty members are sent for development programmes, seminars and workshops, and the institute encourages them to take up higher degrees in their fields.
