About Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)
History and Background
About Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Allahabad IIIT Allahabad, often written IIIT-A, was set up in 1999 as a centre for information technology and allied fields. A year later, in 2000, the Government of India gave it deemed university status. In 2014 an Act of Parliament declared it an Institute of National Importance, which puts it in the same legal category as the IITs and NITs. The campus is at Deoghat, Jhalwa, on the edge of Prayagraj (Allahabad), and covers about 100 acres. Its buildings are laid out on a Penrose geometry pattern. The institute was planned as a fully residential campus, with students, faculty and staff housed in separate pockets inside the grounds. Teaching is concentrated in IT, electronics and their applications. Programmes include: B.Tech in Information Technology and in Electronics and Communication Engineering Integrated B.Tech plus MBA options in IT and ECE M.Tech specialisations, including bioinformatics and other IT-related areas MBA and PhD programmes in IT, electronics, applied sciences and management B.Tech admission is based on JEE Main ranks, and seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling along with the other centrally funded institutes. M.Tech admission mostly relies on GATE, and the MBA uses CAT scores. Doctoral candidates go through the institute's own selection process.
