History and Background
About Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (ABV-IIITM), Gwalior The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, or ABV-IIITM, was set up in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, in 1997 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, now the Ministry of Education. It is an autonomous Institute of National Importance under the Government of India. What makes the institute different from most IIITs is that it puts information technology and management side by side. It was founded to push IT and management education together, and its course list still reflects that. Students can choose integrated five-year programmes that combine a B.Tech with an M.Tech, or a B.Tech with an MBA, as well as standalone M.Tech, MBA and doctoral programmes. Admission to the B.Tech-based integrated programmes is through JEE Main, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling like other centrally funded technical institutes. M.Tech applicants are generally selected on GATE scores, and the MBA uses CAT as its entry test. PhD scholars are chosen through the institute's own process. The institute has appeared in the NIRF engineering and management lists over several years.
