The Harcourt Butler Technical University also known as HBTU , is one of the leading Residential University located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh which focuses on Research, Development and Incubation in the field of Engineering, Technology, Basic & Applied Sciences, Humanities, Social Science, & Management Architecture. It was established in the year 1921 at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and was named after Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, governor of United Provinces during British India. It is known to be one of the oldest engineering institutes of the country and offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral Programmes in engineering and computer applications. On September 1, 2016, it was granted the status of University under the HBTU Act, 2016 passed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Spencer Harcourt Butler, Governor of the United Provinces of British India, is the inspiration behind the naming of the HBTU. JEE Main also known as Joint Entrance Examination- Main, is also a national level entrance examination which was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) until this year, but from upcoming sessions, the examination would be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the months of January and April. UPSEE also known as Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination, is a state level entrance examination conducted by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU)in the month of April. GATE also known as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a Post Graduate level entrance examination, conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology and IISc Bangalore on behalf of National Coordinating Board. The examination is conducted in the month of February.
