About Guntur Medical College
History and Background
Guntur Medical College is a government medical college at Kanna Vari Thota, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh 522004. Its site, https://gunturmedicalcollege.edu.in/, says the Government of Madras ordered on 22 June 1946 that the college would start on 1 July 1946 with 50 students. The first full batch finished the final MBBS in April 1958. The Medical Council of India gave full recognition in 1959, and permission for postgraduate courses was given in 1958. The same page says the diamond jubilee was held in February 2007. The courses page lists MBBS with a sanctioned intake of 250 (200 recognised and 50 permitted). It also lists MD and MS seats, including General Medicine 9, Paediatrics 6, Anaesthesia 10, Radio Diagnosis 1, Pulmonary Medicine 6, Dermatology 6, General Surgery 6, Orthopaedics 3, Ophthalmology 9, ENT 5, Obstetrics and Gynaecology 12, and preclinical and paraclinical MD seats. Super-speciality seats listed there include DM Neurology 4, M.Ch Neurosurgery 2, M.Ch Urology 2, M.Ch Paediatric Surgery 2 and DM Cardiology 2. The MBBS programme on this record was inactive and has been set active, with 250 seats. The college page titled for NEET-based MBBS admissions lists a college tuition and admission fee of Rs 10,800 and a sports and games fee of Rs 1,500. For All India Quota it also lists a demand draft of Rs 10,600 in favour of the Registrar, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. That page is not dated. A separate 2025-26 checklist shows a college fee of Rs 30,000 in sections that also ask for postgraduate certificates, so that amount was not stored as the MBBS fee. No fee row was added.
