The college overview PDF on gmcaurangabad.com says the college was established in July-August 1956, and that 15 August 1956 was the day it opened in the historic city of Aurangabad, then the capital of Marathwada. It started in the Nizam Bungalow in the cantonment with 50 students. The foundation stone of the present building was laid on 27 October 1957 by Swami Ramanand Teerth and the then Chief Minister Yashwantrao Chavan. The same PDF says the campus covers 99 acres.
