About Dyal Singh College, Delhi Dyal Singh College on Lodhi Road has a history that goes back well before Partition. Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, who founded The Tribune, Punjab National Bank and Punjab University, left his wealth in 1895 to an education trust for a secular college. The first Dyal Singh College opened in Lahore in 1910. After 1947 the college was set up again in Karnal, and in 1952 in Delhi. The Delhi college began at Rouse Avenue as a constituent college of the University of Delhi from 5 August 1959 and moved to its present Lodhi Road site on 16 October 1962. For a few years in the 1960s it ran in two shifts. In 1978 the University of Delhi took it over as a university-maintained college, which it still is. The college is accredited by NAAC with an A grade. It has appeared in NIRF college rankings several times. It was 8th in India in 2017, 25th in 2018, 20th in 2019 and 21st in 2020. Its motto, "Gather ye the wisdom of East and West", follows the founder's wish for a broad liberal education. Dyal Singh offers undergraduate courses in arts, commerce and science under the University of Delhi's syllabus. Undergraduate admission is through CUET-UG and the university's CSAS counselling. The college holds webinars for applicants each year and also publishes merit-based admission notices. Fee concession forms and welfare schemes for students are announced on the college website.
