History and Background
About Dr DY Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, based in Pimpri, Pune, is a deemed to be university that the Government of India declared under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 through a notification dated 11 January 2003. The university is commonly called DPU and has grown around its medical and dental colleges in Pimpri. NAAC accredited DPU with an A++ grade (CGPA 3.64) in its third cycle on 8 February 2022, valid until 7 February 2029. The UGC has placed it in Category I, and it holds 12(B) recognition. The campus is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified. DPU also takes part in NIRF in the medical, dental and innovation categories, and it was placed in the 301-400 band of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025 for three of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. There are 14 constituent units, which together cover a wide spread of subjects: Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College and Dental College and Hospital Nursing, Physiotherapy and Optometry Ayurved and Homoeopathy Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Global Business School for management Schools of Design, Liberal Arts, Science and Technology, and Allied Health Sciences Centre for Online Learning and Centre for Skill Development Each programme is recognised by its regulator, such as the NMC for medicine and the DCI for dentistry. MBBS, BDS and postgraduate medical seats are filled through NEET. For many other courses the university runs its own All India online proctored or centre-based entrance test, and Ph.D. admission has a separate entrance test.
